November 3-4 is the “You Say You Want a Revolution” conference, sponsored by Jim Henderson and Off-the-Map.org.

Lot’s of great people are involved, and I am strongly encouraging the people in my faith community participate in the event.

I will be leading a workshop, and engaging in a discussion of seminary education with reps from Bakke and GFU.

domestic violence, the church & theology

There is an important forum coming up in Seattle exploring domestic violence and the church’s role. The forum will bring together pastors, educators and activists from the greater Seattle area to address how the Christian church is preventing the issue of domestic violence from being named. Dr. Nancy Murphy, Adjunct Faculty with MHGS and Executive Director of NWFL will facilitate a conversation. This will also be a gathering for worship and remembrance. This event is open to the public. I will be serving on the panel.

I just received word that I’ll have the privilege and responsibility being one of the North American representatives (mid 30’s and younger) at the Younger Leaders Gathering ’06 sponsored by the Lausanne Movement. This gathering of 550 emerging leaderes from roughly 100 countries will be held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia at the end of September 2006.

As a former student of TV Thomas, Robert Coleman, and Ajith Fernando I have heard many stories from this historic movement, and its importance for the evangelical church. I can’t believe that I get to participate, wow!

If you could bring a question, a concern, or a hope to such a gathering what might you bring? I’m open to suggestions and thoughts.

Rabbi Dov Gartenberg and I met through Synagogue 3000, he and I will be team teaching a Hillel Foundation class in May at University of Washington and Panim Hadashot sponsored by JConnect. We titled our class:

Seeking Common Ground: A Conversation with a Rabbi and a Pastor On Religious Identity and Belief in a Pluralistic World

Its a rare opportunity for young Christians and Jews to engage in conversation about religious identity and faith in a world of diverse choices and religious contentiousness.

Our themes will be:

Does my religious identity or lack thereof help or deter my relationship with others in a diverse society?
Beyond God on my side: Does a sense of religious choseness make sense in our times? (Post-evangelical, post-insular Judaism)
What is religious conversion in pluralistic world?
What does it mean to affirm your faith tradition in a world of multiple ‘truths’’?
Can secular and religious people find common ground?
